The College of Humanities and Social Sciences (CHSS) at the American University of Armenia (AUA) invites applications for a full-time faculty position in Communications, commencing in July 2025. We welcome candidates at the assistant or associate professor rank. Applicants who are ABD may be considered for a lecturer position.

Responsibilities
Position Overview: Faculty members at AUA are expected to teach three courses per semester, engage in program development and university service, and maintain an active research agenda.
Requirements
Qualifications: The successful candidate will possess a PhD in Communications, Media Studies, or a closely related discipline, with a demonstrated record of teaching and publishing in these fields. Candidates applying for the assistant professor rank should have some teaching experience and at least one peer-reviewed publication. Those applying for the associate professor rank should demonstrate substantial teaching experience along with an extensive portfolio of peer-reviewed publications.
We seek individuals capable of teaching core courses in our undergraduate English & Communications program, such as Introduction to Communications and Media & Society. Candidates should also be prepared to supervise senior capstone projects and offer upper- division electives in media studies and communication. Experience teaching journalism or media production courses is highly desirable. Our E&C program alumni frequently gain admission to prestigious graduate programs at institutions such as Harvard, Columbia University, University College London, Sciences Po, and the Sorbonne.
Depending on their interests and expertise, candidates may have opportunities to contribute to the development of AUA’s new Media Lab and its forthcoming Journalism MA program, set to launch in summer 2025. The new, state-of-the-art Media Lab features facilities for video recording, podcasting, editing, and more, with the primary objective of enhancing media literacy and fostering civil society in Armenia and the broader region.
Preference will be given to candidates who have experience teaching non-native English speakers and/or conducting academic work in an international context. We particularly encourage applicants who demonstrate a commitment to diversity, equity, inclusion, social and environmental justice, anti-racism, culturally sustaining practices, and accessibility in their research, teaching, and service.
Additional information
Compensation: Compensation will be competitive and commensurate with AUA’s university-wide pay scale, taking into account qualifications and experience.
AUA offers an extensive benefits package to international hires, including a housing allowance and an international travel allowance.
