Primary Responsibilities:

The Department of Mass Media invites applications for a full-time term Assistant Professor of Digital and Multimedia Journalism to begin August 1, 2025. This is a tenure-track position. Successful candidates will have experience in the best practices for multi-platform journalistic storytelling and must be able to teach and develop students in the areas of journalistic writing, editing, design, audio, and visual production.

The candidate will teach a load equivalent to 9 credit hours per semester to teach students and collaborate with faculty and staff. The candidate also will receive a 3-credit hour release each semester to supervise student leaders of the Arrow, our student-run news organization that additionally serves as the experiential learning component for Multimedia Journalism majors.  Additional responsibilities include student mentoring and participation in recruitment and retention activities.

The Department of Mass Media is a part of the Holland College of Arts and Media and one of only two Missouri programs accredited by the Accrediting Council for Education in Journalism and Mass Communications.

Required Qualifications:

  • JD, PhD, or ABD with degree completion by August 2025 in media, communications, journalism, or a closely related field, OR a Master’s degree in media, communications, or journalism with a minimum of 10 years of journalism experience also will be considered. (Degree must be from a regionally accredited or internationally accredited/government-certified University.)
  • Demonstrated experience working in or with student media.
  • Demonstrated ability to teach skills in the Multimedia Journalism curriculum, with emphasis on reporting across platforms.
  • Demonstrated evidence of scholarly or creative work, i.e. research and/or professional publications
  • Experience using and teaching the Adobe Creative Suite
  • Demonstrated commitment to collegiality when interacting with others within the University community
