Assistant Professor of Journalism and Digital Communication

Full-time, nine-month, tenure-track position starting August 1, 2025. Teaching load is 4/4 including one (3 hour) course reduction for both the Fall and Spring semesters for student media advising. Minimum qualifications: Ph.D. in communication, mass communication, or a related field with an emphasis in journalism required; ability to teach a variety of undergraduate and graduate courses in communication, digital communication and journalism, including reporting, editing, news layout and design, online news reporting, data visualization and/or visual communication; advise the digital and print student newspaper and coordinate content with other student media outlets; ability to use and teach the use of Associated Press style and Adobe Creative Suite including InDesign, Photoshop, and Bridge; and be committed to the continued improvement of teaching using research-based practices. Willingness to teach online is required. Excellent writing skills, a commitment to the Society for Professional Journalists Code of Ethics, and an understanding of the roles and responsibilities of a free press in democratic society required.

Teaching experience and/or professional experience in journalism is preferred. Teachable knowledge of website building applications, HTML, and/or CSS preferred. Research or interest area in social media and/or digital media preferred. Candidates with research of teaching interest in artificial intelligence applications are preferred.
