We are seeking a scholar who works at the intersection of media, democracy and technology. While we are open to a range of disciplines and approaches, the successful candidate should demonstrate a research and teaching interest in journalism.

Elements of a research agenda that connect media, democracy and technology in important, innovative ways could include, but are not limited to, some of the following:

  • The future of local journalism
  • Solutions journalism
  • The rule of law and threats to democracy
  • Misinformation, disinformation and propaganda
  • Business models/ethics for the future of journalism
  • Comparative or international media studies
  • Migration
  • Climate change
  • Social media, audience engagement, and participation
  • Privacy, technology, and information policy
  • Algorithmic bias and journalism
  • Computational automation and journalism
  • Artificial intelligence and journalism

If your research area is not included in this list of examples and you can explain how your work explores questions at the intersection of media, democracy, and technology, we encourage you to apply.

Candidates should have a Ph.D. in journalism, information science, communication, media studies, political science, sociology, geography or another relevant field by August 2024, but ABD candidates will be considered.

We prefer candidates who have demonstrated an ability to attract research funding or show the potential to do so.

Research methods could include, but are not limited to, quantitative analysis, natural language processing, machine learning, big data analytics or content analysis.
