SUMMARY:

The Department of Journalism & Creative Media Industries in the College of Media & Communication at Texas Tech University invites applications for a tenure-track Assistant Professor who can advance our department’s growing offerings in digital gaming to begin in the fall of 2025.  JCMI students are typically first-time game makers who are new to both game design and coding.  The person in this position will help service these students by advancing a research agenda in the area of gaming, growing an existing undergraduate certificate in Game Design and Culture, helping to develop a campus game making community, and aiding in other departmental curriculum.

The Creative Media Industries degree at Texas Tech is designed to train innovative, responsible storytellers in convergent media forms who can create, analyze, and compete in diverse U.S. and global media marketplaces.  Our growth in game design and culture contributes to this mission through both coursework and student engagement, and the department recently opened an 18-seat esports competition and streaming lab (https://www.depts.ttu.edu/comc/esports/).

Successful candidates must have a publication record and research agenda demonstrating their expertise in theories and concepts pertinent to game studies and immersive, interactive media.  Such expertise may include (but is not limited to) the study of identity in online culture, emerging media industries and economics (XR, cryptocurrency), esports, fan studies, digital cultures, human-machine communication, strategic communication, or media psychology.  Candidates must also have a record of or articulate a plan for the successful pursuit of extramural funding from federal, state, or private funding in support of engaged scholarship.

A demonstrated record of teaching excellence is required.

In addition, preference will be given to candidates who have strengths and experience in digital game design in one or more of the following areas: working with game engines and design tools, creative coding, interactive storytelling, physical and digital game prototyping, level design, interaction design, and/or analog design.

Preference will also be given to candidates with strengths and experience that can aid the department’s curricular and community expansion in closely aligned areas of game design, including: game jams, esports events, festival submissions, 2D/3D game art, VR/AR design, and building 3D game environments as well advance the department’s engagement with external partners from across the university and beyond.

The position of Assistant Professor is a 9-month, tenure-track position.  The anticipated start date is September 1, 2025 with faculty-on-duty in mid-August.  The standard teaching load is four courses per academic year, typically a 2-2 load, with the possible opportunity to teach additional courses during summer or intersession semesters for additional compensation.  Teaching assignments may include both face-to-face and online courses.

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS:

  1. Candidates must have either completed a Ph.D. in a Media & Communication or closely aligned discipline relevant to this position in game studies at the time of appointment;
  2. A demonstrated scholarly publication record and agenda demonstrating expertise in game studies and/or immersive, interactive media.
  3. A record of or demonstrated vision for the successful pursuit of extramural funding from federal, state, or private funding in support of engaged scholarship.
  4. Demonstrated record of teaching excellence.
  5. Candidates must be eligible to work in the United States.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:

In addition to the required qualifications, individuals with the following preferred qualifications are strongly encouraged to apply:

  1. Demonstrated strengths and experience in game studies and/or game design;
  2. Demonstrated strengths and experience in teaching courses related to game design;
  3. A record of teaching excellence in a variety of contexts (face-to-face, online, hybrid) and class sizes (large lecture, lecture, and skills-oriented labs).
  4. Experience with mentorship of undergraduate and/or graduate students is highly desirable.

Purdue University’s Brian Lamb School of Communication is seeking a practitioner of advertising, public relations, and/or marketing for a faculty position at the rank of Assistant Professor of Practice.

Principal Duties: The candidate for this position will be teaching and mentoring undergraduate students in the Lamb School’s largest concentration, Public Relations and Strategic Communication, with a focus on advertising. Assistant Teaching Professor, Media Arts

Position Summary:

The College of Humanities, Education and Social Sciences invites applications for an Assistant Teaching Professor in Media Arts to begin in August 2025. The successful candidate will teach undergraduate courses in studio media, field production, post-production and audio production including podcasting. Area of specialty is open with preference for a skilled artist in audio and video production with knowledge of the implications and applications of generative AI. The successful candidate will teach primarily in the Digital Media program while supporting other related programs in the School of Communication and the Arts, such as Journalism and the Master’s in Strategic Communication. Collaboration with Gannon’s nationally recognized radio station WERG and/or student newspaper The Gannon Knight is encouraged. We welcome candidates with digital artistic and communication interests who are passionate about teaching, colleagueship, and content creation. The successful candidate will advise students and prepare them intellectually, professionally, and personally. Requirements include an earned Master’s of Fine Arts or Ph.D. in Digital Media or a related field (completed by time of appointment), a mastery of the Adobe Creative suite software (Premiere, Audition, After Effects, and Photoshop), and demonstrated teaching excellence in higher education. Instructor or Assistant Professor of Mass Communication – Public Relations/Advertising

The Department of Mass Communication at Midwestern State University invites applications for a faculty position in public relations and advertising to begin August 2025. This is a full-time, benefits eligible position. The department offers a variety of courses across the discipline leading to a broad mass communication degree with specialized minors in public relations/advertising, digital media, broadcasting, digital film production and multimedia journalism. We are highly student-oriented, and faculty are expected to be accessible to the students. Our students and alumni have won major awards at the state, regional and national levels. We have recently overhauled our curriculum, which now includes an on-campus advertising/PR agency, general advertising/PR courses and more specific courses such as event planning.

Midwestern State University, located about two hours from the DFW Metroplex, is the only Texas public institution that is a member of the Council of Public Liberal Arts Colleges. MSU is small enough to be personal but large enough to offer students considerable opportunities.

Duties: The successful candidate will teach a range of advertising and public relations courses and may be assigned to teach other courses in the major as needed. The successful candidate will also serve as an academic adviser; lead students to participate in extracurricular activities such as AAF and PRSSA; maintain a record of scholarly activities commensurate with rank; actively recruit; engage in departmental, university and community service; develop relationships with area professionals; be a positive representative of the department both on and off campus; and perform other duties as assigned.

Minimum Qualifications: A master’s degree in mass communication or a related field, and substantial professional experience with public relations or advertising, is required for the rank of instructor on non-tenure track. A doctorate or terminal degree in mass communication or a related field is required for the rank of assistant professor on tenure track.

Preferred Qualifications: Teaching experience, especially at the undergraduate level; professional experience in the fields of advertising and/or public relations; video, production and student media experience; ability to teach core courses such as Mass Media and Society, Film Appreciation, and Interpersonal Communication; experience in academic advising; experience with recruiting.
