Position Overview
The William Allen White School of Journalism and Mass Communications at the University of Kansas seeks an engaged, dynamic, and experienced scholar in sports media to join our faculty. We’re not only growing our Sports Media & Society concentration, we are transforming how we view sports media in society. Our new concentration opens the world of sports media for students, journalists, and marketing communicators. Beyond the game, we are looking for scholars who can teach about and create experiences of not only the games but of better understanding of the complex world of sports behind the scenes.
Appointment at a particular level will be based on an applicant’s research/creative portfolio and teaching record. Each position is full-time, tenure-track to begin August 18, 2025.
The School carries an atmosphere of collegiality that is supportive of an environment which is inclusive, interdisciplinary, and collaborative. Job Description
40% Teaching:

The Communications Department at Syracuse University’s S.I. Job Specific Qualifications:
- The successful candidate will have a strong track record or demonstrate a promise for strong a trajectory of scholarship, in research or policy development regarding any area of communications law, either in the US and/or internationally. Prior university teaching experience is desirable.
Responsibilities:
- The faculty member will teach five courses in an academic year. At the undergraduate level, we regularly offer specific courses on communications law for journalism students; for public relations and advertising students; and for students in the television, radio and film industries. At the graduate level we regularly offer courses on media law for our professionally oriented master’s students. The ideal candidate should feel comfortable teaching any of these classes. In addition, opportunities may be available for the successful candidates to teach in areas consistent with their experiences.
- The faculty member will be expected to engage in scholarship and/or appropriate professional writing that brings national and/or global visibility to the school such that they become recognized as experts in the field.
- The faculty member will engage in a variety of service duties, including academic and career advising of undergraduate and graduate students; department, school and university committee service; and service to the field.

Qualifications
Candidates should have an earned doctorate in public relations/related areas. Professional experience in public relations or related field desired. Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
The Department of Communication at MSU seeks a non-tenure-track instructor who specializes in public relations. The successful candidate will primarily teach in the Public Relations concentration area and be actively involved in service roles that contribute to furthering the reputation of the concentration, department, college, and university.
The successful candidate will teach undergraduate courses (in person and/or online). A sample of undergraduate courses that the successful candidate may be assigned to teach include, but is not limited to, Research in PR & Advertising, Digital and Social Media Analytics, PR in Organizations (Capstone Course), PR Multimedia, PR Case Problems, PR Writing, PR Production, Media Relations, Certificate in Principles of Public Relations (PRSA undergraduate PR certificate preparatory course), or other based on area of expertise.
A typical course load for an instructor is four undergraduate courses per semester.
Service includes advising majors and student organizations, developing curriculum, and serving on committees. Service activities within the community, academic and professional disciplines are also recognized as aspects of faculty achievement.
Minimum Qualifications:
Masters’ degree (in a communication field or a closely related field from an accredited university by hire date) and professional experience in the discipline.
Preferred Qualifications:
In addition to the graduate degree, the ideal candidate would have experience teaching public relations courses with some public relations professional practice. Current active involvement with PR professional organizations, such as PRSA/PRSSA, experience working with a student-led media agency, or obtaining the APR credential is also preferred.
The ideal candidate would be familiar with or have some experience with current technology and trends commonly used in the field, such as Adobe products (e.g., Illustrator, InDesign, Photoshop, Lightroom, Premiere, Express, Rush, Audition, Dreamweaver), social and digital media planning, tracking, and reporting analytics programs (e.g., Meltwater, Sprout, Cision, Google Analytics), podcasting, photography, and/or videography.

Tenure-Track Assistant Professor of Professional Communication Studies. The Division of Psychology & Communication Studies in the College of Arts & Sciences at Alfred University invites applications for a full-time, tenure-track position at the rank of Assistant Professor beginning the fall semester of the 2025-2026 academic year.
