Tenure-Track Assistant Professor in Public Relations

Position: The School of Communication and Journalism at Auburn University invites applications for a tenure-track position as an Assistant Professor of Public Relations beginning fall semester, Aug. 16, 2025.

Responsibilities: The candidate will teach in person undergraduate and graduate courses in Public Relations, such as Multimedia Writing for Public Relations, Style and Design in PR Messages, Digital Media Analytics, Foundations of PR, PR Case Studies & Ethics, Social Media and PR, Research Methods, Strategic Communication and/or PR Campaigns.

Tenure-track faculty members are expected to engage in scholarly research or appropriate creative work. In addition to teaching five courses per year, responsibilities include service to the school, college, university, and professional associations, such as the PR divisions of national organizations, such as PRSA, AEJMC and/or NCA. The candidate will advise graduate students on theses and projects.

Applicants should have a demonstrated record of excellence in collegiate teaching and evidence of integrating digital media elements into PR courses. The successful candidate will have taught or have an interest in developing courses or have a research specialization related to ethics, culture, and/or AI. Experience with and the ability to successfully teach remotely/online are also highly sought after skills. Professional experience in agency, industry or nonprofit sectors is also valued. Candidates should be able to contribute to any of the above courses, however, special consideration will be given to those with teaching experience in one or more of the following areas: Multimedia Writing and PR research. Applicants may offer other areas of teaching and/or research specialization, such as international, corporate, sport, political or non-profit Public Relations.

Requirements/Qualifications: The ideal candidate will have a Ph.D. in Public Relations, Mass Communication or related field at the time employment begins. Outstanding candidates who are in the final stages of dissertation writing (ABD) will be considered. However, appointment to the tenure-track position at the rank of assistant professor requires the earned doctorate by the August 16, 2025 start date. If the candidate fails to complete the degree by the designated date, the position will revert to an instructor position. The offer will be withdrawn if the Ph.D. is not earned by May 15, 2026. Salary is competitive, dependent on qualifications and contingent on funding.

The Department of Journalism, Broadcasting and Public Relations at SUNY Brockport seeks an energetic social media instructor who can teach a range of undergraduate courses in social media. Instructional-track Faculty (ITF) Member

The School of Journalism and Mass Communication at the University of Iowa seeks to hire a full-time instructional-track faculty (ITF) member to teach primarily general education (GE) and lower-division courses in SJMC. This is an open-rank, non-tenure-track position. Candidates can be hired at the rank of Assistant Professor of Instruction, Associate Professor of Instruction, or Professor of Instruction depending on qualifications. The appointment will begin August 20, 2025. The initial appointment is three years (renewable).

The candidate’s primary responsibility will be teaching undergraduate courses that fulfill general education requirements. Therefore, the faculty member will be expected to teach courses from our existing GE offerings and may be asked to develop new classes to be added to the GE requirement. Existing GE classes include:

About the position: The Jack J. Valenti School of Communication at the University of Houston invites applications for a tenure-track advanced assistant or early associate professor position in journalism beginning in Fall of 2025. The candidate will need to have demonstrated a substantive record of research, teaching and service. The successful candidate would be expected to teach required and elective undergraduate and graduate courses in journalism. Preference will be given to applicants who have professional experience in journalism.

The ideal candidate would be interested in growing opportunities for the school in terms of leadership, which could range from helping direct the school to advancing strategic initiatives. This person would be interested in working with internal and external groups to advance the school’s student and faculty successes. They would have a record of academic leadership; administrative expertise is also desirable to demonstrate the applicant’s ability to foster and promote the department’s vision, and successfully implement its strategic goals.

Tenure-line faculty teach a 2-2 course load. They are expected to conduct research at the level of Tier 1 institutions. They are expected to provide service to the school as well as the industry.

Qualifications: A Ph.D. in communication or related field is required.

We are especially interested in candidates whose work addresses journalism as they pertain to issues of artificial intelligence and emerging media technologies and democracy, or automated journalism. The candidate will also be comfortable teaching one of the required methodology courses at the graduate level.

Position Description

The Department of Communication at the University of Washington, Seattle, seeks a full-time tenure-track Assistant Professor who studies political communication. This position will utilize a strong grounding in theories of political communication to establish and maintain a dynamic research agenda that illuminates: the media’s role in democratic societies; the processes by which they shape individuals as well as public life; and how these processes play out across lines of social and political difference.

Job Summary:

The School of Communication and the Arts at Marist College invites applications for a tenure-track Assistant Professor of Public Relations, beginning August 2025. The department seeks a candidate with the ability to teach a broad range of courses in Public Relations, including introductory and upper-level courses. Particular areas of expertise sought include Applied Research and Analytics, Campaign Management, and Crisis Communication, as well as courses in the candidate’s area of expertise. For appointment at the rank of Assistant Professor:

  • PhD degree in journalism, communication, sports management, or related field by start date of appointment.
  • Demonstrated (or high potential for) teaching excellence in a university setting including the ability to develop and teach online courses.
  • Demonstrated (or high potential for) research success as shown through publications, portfolio, awards, research grants, or working papers.
  • Three years of full-time professional experience in media, communication, or a related field. For appointment at the rank of Associate Professor:
  • PhD in journalism, communication, sports management, or related field
  • Record of productive teaching excellence in a university setting including the ability to develop and teach online courses
  • Three years of full-time professional experience in media, communication, or a related field.
  • Demonstrated excellence in research as shown through publications, portfolio, awards research grants, or working papers that have either enabled the candidate to be successfully promoted to Associate Professor at a research-oriented university of a similar or higher research profile as the University of Kansas, or meet the expectations in professional experience for qualification.
