Job Description
The Department of Mass Communication, Advertising, and Public Relations at Boston University seeks to hire two tenure-track Assistant Professors. We are seeking outstanding individuals conducting impactful research in advertising, including digital strategy, media strategy, and communication analytics. The positions begin in September of 2025.
The successful candidates should have a Ph.D. in advertising, communication, or a related field, as well as an active program of advertising focused research. The ideal candidates will demonstrate the potential to develop a national or international reputation as a scholar and bring both intellectual and experiential diversity to our existing faculty. Duties include teaching two classes each semester, advising students, and serving on various committees to advance the work of the University, College, or Department, while producing significant, high-quality scholarship. Special consideration will be given to applicants whose research and teaching employ theories and rigorous methodologies in the rapidly changing area of media strategy, digital strategy, or new technologies.
Teaching assignments for these positions include, but are not limited to, undergraduate and graduate courses such as Introduction to Advertising, Principles and Practices of Advertising, Media Strategy, New and Traditional Media, and Interactive Marketing, and contributing to the development and delivery of an evolving curriculum in this rapidly changing discipline, while elevating our advertising research profile.

Boston University’s College of Communication invites applications for a non-tenure track Associate Professor of the Practice of Journalism, specializing in broadcast journalism. The responsibilities are to teach undergraduate and graduate courses in journalism, preparing our students for an aspect of the industry that is undergoing tremendous change. We are looking for someone with a contemporary understanding of how broadcast journalism is executed, its role in a well-informed society, and how video is effectively used across many organizations and platforms. This Associate Professor of the Practice will be committed to the highest standards of journalism while promoting the kinds of innovations necessary to make journalism relative and sustainable.

A successful candidate should have the following:
- A distinguished career as a journalist, including a record of sustained excellence. Recognition at the regional level is a given and recognition at the national level is desired.
- A track record of innovation and a strong grasp of many facets of broadcast journalism, whether in front of the camera, or as a producer, or as an executive.

- A master’s degree is preferred; a doctorate is desirable. Neither are required.
- Ability to teach skills courses as well as courses in ethics, international reporting and / or policy.
- Experience in mentoring and management is a significant plus.
- Experience in an academic community, including teaching, is a plus.

Assistant Professor in Crisis or Risk Communication
The Communication Department in the College of Liberal Arts at the University of Massachusetts Boston invites applications for a tenure-track Assistant Professor position specializing in crisis or risk communication to join our faculty beginning September 1, 2025. We are seeking candidates whose research agenda adopts a social scientific approach to risk or crisis communication, aligning with the Department’s empirical focus.
Qualifications:
