The Department of Media and Communication invites applications and nominations for faculty appointment at the rank of Chair Professor/Professor/Associate Professor/Assistant Professor beginning in August/January.

Duties

Teach courses at both undergraduate and postgraduate levels; supervise research students at master and doctoral levels, conduct high-level and quality research, seek competitive external research funding, develop new research directions when necessary, and develop curriculum and courses.  The appointees will also be assigned to take up administrative duties and other duties to facilitate the development of the Department, College and the University.

Requirements

A PhD in Communication or a closely related field from a globally accredited institution.

To align with the strategic development of the Department, candidates in the following specialised areas will be given a high priority:

  1. Strategic Communication – public relations, digital public relations, integrated marketing communication, digital and social media communication, organisational communication, crisis/risk communication, relationship management, conflict resolution, ESG/CSR communication, cross-cultural communication, measurement and evaluation in communication.
  2. Visual Communication – visual branding, visual storytelling, visual perception, visual semiotics and visual communication technology.
  3. Candidates for this position are expected to teach courses they are comfortable with in either photography, design, visual story-telling, production, or advertising. They may engage in at least a couple of the above research areas.
  4. Communication and Technology – information and communication technologies (ICTs), including the adoption, use, content, effects, and policy of ICTs.

Candidates for Professor or above should command a superb record of scholarly achievements, possess an international standing and exert leadership in the field of digital communication.

Candidates for Associate Professor should have an outstanding record of scholarly achievements in both teaching and research, a strong record in attracting competitive research grants and/or academic management expertise.

Candidates for Assistant Professor should have a solid record of, or evidence of high promise for, scholarly achievements in both teaching and research.

The appointees are expected to work well with colleagues.  Preference will be given to those who are willing to teach skills-oriented courses; and possess industrial experience or particular expertise in Journalism, TV Production, Digital Media Planning, Marketing and Strategic Communication, or Social Media Management.

Salary and Conditions of Service

Remuneration package will be driven by market competitiveness and individual performance.  Excellent fringe benefits include gratuity, leave, medical and dental schemes, and relocation assistance (where applicable).  Initial appointment will be made on a fixed-term contract.
