THE DEPARTMENT OF COMMUNICATION AND MEDIA AT LOYOLA UNIVERSITY MARYLAND invites applications for a tenure-track assistant professor in Digital Media to begin in July 2025. The individual selected for this position will be able to contribute to the robust teacher-scholar identity of the department. Tenure-track faculty teach three courses per semester and actively engage in research in the area of their scholarly interest. In addition to teaching and research expectations, tenure-track faculty have the opportunity to serve on the committees at both departmental and
university levels and mentor undergraduate and graduate students. Funds are available to support research-related expenses and professional travel and may include research start-up costs.
For this position, the department is especially interested in a candidate with an active research agenda in digital media issues and practices who can also add new courses on Extended Reality (AR, VR & Mixed Reality) and/or AI in digital media applications to the department’s curriculum. Additionally, an ideal candidate will be expected to teach existing digital media courses at both undergraduate and graduate levels, such as digital content creation, audio or podcasting, graphic or web design, and supervision of undergraduate/graduate capstone projects.
Required Qualifications: (1) an earned doctorate in media, communication or in a related field, no later than August 2025; (2) an established program of research and publication, including emerging media issues; (3) the ability to create new courses on AR, VR and Mixed Reality and/or AI in Digital Media applications and teach existing digital media courses at graduate and undergraduate levels; 4) the ability to create a sense of inclusion and belonging in the classroom, and to infuse multicultural content into course material as appropriate; (5) strong commitment to excellence in teaching, including an appreciation of or engagement in high-impact teaching practices and experiential learning; and (6) the ability to contribute to the Jesuit educational mission of the department and university.
Preferred Qualifications: 1) Experience of teaching or creating skills courses in digital media. 2) Professional experiences in the field of digital media and design.
