Bradley University — Entry-level Tenure-Track Assistant Professor of Journalism. Department of Communication seeks candidate who can teach journalism students to thrive in a converged newsroom, including writing for broadcast and online platforms. The successful candidate will teach a variety of lower and upper division undergraduate courses in Journalism with an emphasis on reporting and writing, as well as other departmental core courses as appropriate. The successful candidate will also advise program majors, engage in scholarship and help develop innovative approaches to communication education in a global environment. Required qualifications: an earned doctorate in communication or other appropriate terminal degree; evidence of teaching effectiveness; an expressed interest and commitment to principles of cultural diversity, and a record of successful scholarship (research and/or creative production) in journalism or related fields. Preferred qualifications: a terminal degree in journalism and substantial relevant professional experience. ABD applicants will be considered, but are only eligible for tenure-track status upon completion of the terminal degree. Salary: Competitive and commensurate with experience and qualifications. Assistant Professor of Advertising • Department of Mass Media Arts, Journalism and Communication Studies, Clarion University of Pennsylvania — The Department of Mass Media Arts, Journalism and Communication Studies at Clarion University invites applications for a tenure track Assistant Professor of Advertising to begin in January 2009. Minimum qualifications include the terminal degree from an accredited program in Mass Communication (Ph.D. in Mass Communication, Mass Media or related field; ABD doctoral candidates considered), and university/college-level advertising teaching experience. Professional advertising experience in a corporate, agency or comparable setting is desirable. Completion of a successful on-campus interview is required. Candidates must demonstrate a record of and continued commitment to a scholarly focus in advertising, both in Ph.D. study, teaching, and ongoing research. Teaching responsibilities will include courses in principles and practices of advertising, advertising design and copy writing, advertising campaigns, and related courses to meet departmental needs. We are also interested in candidates who can design and teach advertising courses for our M.S. degree in Mass Media Arts and Journalism, and directly aid our efforts in attaining ACEJMC accreditation within the next two years. Other responsibilities include university service, departmental committee assignments, and continued scholarly growth. Clarion’s Department of Mass Media Arts, Journalism and Communication Studies offers mass communication-centered degree programs, and is housed within the College of Arts and Sciences. The Department of Communications at Louisiana State University in Shreveport invites applicants for two tenure-track positions to help us re-shape our program and better train our graduates for an evolving industry. Preference will be given to applicants with industry experience, including experience with software used in New Media/Online journalism. Along with advising and committee work, all faculty teach 12 hours per semester. Regular scholarly production is required for graduate faculty membership, tenure, and promotion. Experience using instructional technology is expected. POSITION 1: ENTRY-LEVEL ASSISTANT PROFESSOR • Ph.D. preferred but will consider ABD. Successful candidates will be able to teach print and convergence journalism, as well as news writing, feature writing, editing, and online reporting. This position consists of teaching nine hours per semester and serving as advisor to the student newspaper and integrating convergence into the student news organization. Ability to teach public relations and television courses will be a plus. POSITION 2: ENTRY-LEVEL ASSISTANT PROFESSOR • A Ph.D. in mass communications or related field is preferred but ABD/Master’s degree with outstanding professional experience may be considered. We are looking for applicants with industry experience and knowledge of the software used in New Media/Broadcast and Online Journalism. LSUS is specifically looking for applicants that can show a breadth of knowledge and experience in the mass communications field and its emerging technologies. The successful applicant will have skills in teaching broadcast news/feature writing, video production/editing, and broadcast announcing. The ability to teach public relations will be a plus. Loyola University seeks applicants for an Assistant Professor or Associate Professor to teach digital communication courses in the School of Mass Communication. Responsibilities include teaching entry-level courses in digital communication, including skills in digital video and photography, layout and Web site design. This position also requires management and oversight of computer labs. Two additional areas of creative contribution include the Shawn M. Donnelley Center for Non-Profit Communication and the on-line version of The Maroon (the official student newspaper). Qualifications include a Ph.D. or MFA in Communication or a related field, and college teaching experience. This position requires proficiency in the Adobe Creative Suite, including Adobe Photoshop, Adobe Acrobat, Adobe InDesign, Adobe Flash Player and Adobe Dreamweaver.
