AEJMC Call for Papers
2010 Convention • Denver, CO
The programming groups within the Council of Divisions of the Association for Education in Journalism and Mass Communication invite submission of original, non-published research papers to be considered for presentation at the AEJMC Convention, August 4 to 7, 2010, in Denver, CO. All AEJMC paper competition submissions will follow an electronic process. Deadline for paper submissions is April 1, 2010, at 11:59 p.m. CDT. See complete call.

Editor Call
The International Debate Education Association (IDEA) is publishing a series of Sourcebooks on Contemporary Controversies. The association is seeking an editor for a sourcebook based on the question Are Traditional Media (broadly defined) Dead? The book should cover how new media has impacted traditional media, how traditional media are adapting, and whether the older media can survive. See complete call.
Great Idea For Teachers (GIFT)
Great Idea For Teachers (GIFT) session is sponsored by the Community College Journalism Association (CCJA), Small Programs Interest Group (SPIG), Newspaper Division and Scholastic Journalism Division at the annual AEJMC convention in Denver, Colorado. This session is scheduled for Wednesday, Aug. 4, 3:15-4:45 p.m. and will showcase the most innovative teaching tips from the world’s best journalism and mass communication educators. The AJHA Book of the Year Award
American Journalism Historians Association
The AJHA Book of the Year Award recognizes the best in journalism history or mass media history published during the calendar year. The book must have been granted a first-time copyright in 2009. Entrants should send four copies of their books to the book award coordinator, Aimee Edmondson, Ohio University, E.W. Scripps School of Journalism, 204 Scripps Hall, Athens, Ohio 45701. Best Ideas in the Teaching
of Communication Law and Policy Competition
The Law and Policy Division is pleased to announce our second-year teaching ideas competition. We’re looking for your best and most innovative ideas for teaching communication law and policy. Submissions could include an innovative assignment, activity, or lesson plan – or a particularly original approach to teaching the subject in general. Journal of Magazine & New Media Research
The Magazine Division’s scholarly, refereed journal, the Journal of Magazine & New Media Research, welcomes submissions focused on magazine or online media research. Non-refereed articles, book reviews, and essays are also welcome for its “Essays, Reports, & Reviews” section. EBSCO Publishing will now publish and index all of the journal’s articles in its Communication and Mass Media Complete index. EBSCO has more than 2,000 institutional subscribers throughout the world. The International Communication Division of AEJMC, invites entries for its student contest in news story writing for the year 2009-2010. Call for Award Applications
James W. Carey Media Research Award 2010
Sponsored by the Carl Couch Center for Social and Internet Research. The Carl Couch Center invites self-nominations for works to be considered for its annual James W. Carey Media Research Award. The Couch Center welcomes works on topics that have been central to Carey’s scholarship. Submissions might focus on technology, time, space and communication, the nature of public life, the relation between journalism and popular culture — among others — taking these themes in new or different directions. Burd Urban Journalism Award
The Urban Communication Foundation
The Gene Burd Urban Journalism Award is given to reward and thereby improve the practice and study of journalism in the urban environment by recognizing high quality urban media reporting, critical analysis, and research relevant to that content and its communication about city problems, programs, policies, and public priorities in urban life and culture. Awards are for individuals with a distinguished record of accomplished works in urban journalism. Up to $5,000 per award will be given. Deadline for complete nomination materials: April 1, 2010. AEJMC Best of the Web 2010
AEJMC’S annual Web design contest is ready to accept submissions. Revised categories for this year include individual- and team-designed sites and group projects. Participation is limited to faculty and graduate students who work for or attend an ACEJMC-accredited institution or are current members of AEJMC. Deadline for submissions: April 1, 2010. Outstanding Educator Award
AEJMC Newspaper Division
The AEJMC Newspaper Division seeks nominations for its Outstanding Educator Award. The award is open to any journalism professor who is a full-time faculty member of a bachelor degree-granting institution of higher education in the United States. The nominee should have a demonstrated track record of achievement in preparing journalism students, advancing journalism education and promoting career development. Deadline: April 1. Mary A. Gardner Scholarship
AEJMC invites applications for the Mary A. Gardner Scholarship. (One $300 scholarship will be awarded). The award, established by Dr. Gardner’s former students, goes to an outstanding college journalism student who is an incoming college junior or senior.
